Our Story

The Oak Creek Cares fund was created as a result of the tremendous outpouring of support after the events of August 5, 2012. The shooting at the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin in Oak Creek brought our residents together in many ways, creating a positive from a negative, demonstrating the power of working together to build a stronger community. Shortly after the shooting, we recognized that we wanted our response to the event on August 5th to define us, rather than the event itself.

This has been the case — from the actions of our heroic public safety officers, to the assistance offered by our many, diverse places of worship, to our school system, public servants, and residents — each taking the time to get involved, and do the right thing. All across the United States, from Washington D.C. to California, Oak Creek is viewed as a city that did it the right way.

Oak Creek Cares is the embodiment of that statement, and its mission is to seek out programs and individuals who benefit the safety and security of all of us, creating a natural bridge to the future, expanding our community response to make a difference every day.

Join us in our efforts to make the world a safer, more secure place.
